Instagram hashtags is a simple tactic that can be used to grow both your reach and authority.

A post with at least one Instagram hashtag averages 12.6% more engagement than posts without a hashtag. So it really is worth creating a hashtag strategy for your brand if you want to grow your account!

And the question is: “how do I find the best hashtags for my Instagram post?”

Before you start search your hashtags, reply to these questions to be clear how to find the most effective ones:

1. What are your customers searching

Use hashtags that relate to your target audience! Think about what those customers are actually searching on instagram and they will find your post.

2. Where are you or where is your business location

Use location specific hashtags! This is a great way for people to feel connected to your business.

3. How many hashtags you should use

Less is better! Don’t use too many hashtags!

Is there an Instagram hashtags limit? Yes! You can use up to 30 hashtags on a post, but we don’t recommend it because too many hashtags will mark you as a spammer. Combine popular IG hashtags with smaller niche hashtags. Between 10-20 well selected hashtags is enough for your post!

Don’t use too many huge hashtags!

When you search a hashtag in the app, you can see how many posts are using that hashtag. Don’t use too many that are more than 1-2 million! It’s much harder to get seen when things are that saturated. We recommend using 10k – 300k hashtags.

Using ultra-popular hashtags #love, #instagood, and #photooftheday might get you a few extra likes, but they aren’t going to help you grow an engaged, targeted following on Instagram.

If you’re hoping to get more genuine engagement, you need to get super-relevant and niche with your hashtags — by using hashtags that describe your account, your business, and your target market.

I don’t have any idea. Where can I find relevant hashtags?

Research your audience

Instead, look at what your audience is interested in, and find what they’re searching for. If you add in hashtags that include keywords that your audience is actually looking for, you’ll instantly raise your chances of being found.

Research your competitors

By looking at what Instagram hashtags your competitors are using, you’ll be able to get an idea of which hashtags provide the most engagement. This is especially true for “bigger brands” – they’ve likely already done research to find out which are the best hashtags for Instagram in their niche. Now, this doesn’t mean that you have to compete or copy those exact hashtags in your own Instagram posts, but they might end up giving you a better idea of what your posts should look like.

Research Instagram Influencers

One of the best ways to learn which Instagram hashtags to use is to look at the top influencers which are relevant to your brand. You’ll be able to tell a fair bit from analyzing which hashtags they are using and the engagement that they are getting on their posts.

4. Where I should put these hashtags?

Post your hashtags in the first comment. While adding hashtags to your posts is one of the best ways to boost your engagement and get your posts in front of your target audience, too many hashtags in your captions can look untidy (or worse, spammy!).

5. After I found all the effective hashtags and posted I have nothing else to do?

Oh yes! Now, you have to engage with the hashtags that you use!

If you expect people to engage with your hashtags, you need to engage with theirs!
